If you’re like me, you buy a lot of hummus. Besides being expensive, store-bought hummus also doesn’t let you choose the ingredients to include or exclude. This is all ludicrous, because it is sickeningly easy to make.
Ingredients:
- One 15 oz. can of chick peas (garbanzo beans)
- 2 tbsp tahini (made from ground sesame seeds)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup of the liquid from the chick peas
- 3 cloves of garlic, peeled and smashed
- 1/2 lemon, juice
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tsp cumin
- 2 tsp salt
This is where the ludicrous happens: put all the ingredients into a food processor and combine them. Done! As always, you can make this hummus any way you like. I like garlic, obviously, so mine is garlic hummus. You could add roasted eggplant. Or roasted red peppers. Maybe add some cayenne, or your other favorite spices. You could also go the other way and just puree the chick peas by themselves, although I think you’d be missing out.
And here’s a tip: make sure you have pitas ready when you make this.
